About the product
A starter kit for anyone who wants to make green tea lattes at home without first buying a whole matcha setup. You get the tool and two powders: the shaker that does the work a bamboo whisk would otherwise do, and both our Kakurecha powders from Umegashima in Shizuoka.
The point of the combination is that you get two different cups out of one method. The sencha powder is fresh and green, made for the morning and for the latte that has to happen quickly. The hojicha powder is roasted, nutty and naturally lower in caffeine, which makes it the evening cup. Same shaker, same ten seconds, two completely different drinks.
Both powders come from a mountain farm at around 750 metres that has been worked without pesticides for more than forty years, and they are tested for over 700 pesticides with no detectable residues. That is an unusual thing to be able to say about a green powder, and it is the whole reason we stocked them.
The method is the same every time: powder first, a splash of cold water, shake for ten seconds, pour over warm or cold milk. No whisk, no bowl, no technique to learn.
Most people who want to start making green tea lattes at home get stuck in the same place: they do not know which powder to buy, and they think they need a whisk and a bowl first. This kit answers both at once. The tool is the shaker, and the powders are the two we drink ourselves.
We put it together from parts we already sell separately, not from a new range. That means nothing in here exists to fill a box. The shaker is the one we actually reach for on a Tuesday morning, and the Kakurecha powders are the ones we chose because we can stand behind them all the way back to the farm.
The same ten seconds gives you two completely different cups, depending on which powder you reach for. That is the whole idea behind the combination.
Fresh and green with clear umami and natural sweetness. Rounder in milk than matcha, and made for the latte that has to happen quickly.
Roasted and nutty with a note of caramel, almost no astringency and naturally lower in caffeine. The evening cup.
The wing-shaped structure in the base of the shaker builds a dense, even foam even with cold water, which a whisk cannot do.
One powder to get going and one to wind down. The same tool for both, which is the reason it actually happens.
The kit exists so that our powders get used, not just bought. One tool and two pouches that together turn a green latte into something that happens every week rather than something you keep meaning to start.
This kit is made for the everyday latte, and for that matcha is rarely the right tool. Here is how we think about it.
Ceremonial matcha is shade-grown and priced for a clean, whisked cup where umami and depth show. In a sweetened milk latte you are paying for nuance you drown anyway.
Milk can take over the finer flavour notes, but purity ends up in the cup however you drink the tea. That is why we put the weight there: grown without pesticides for more than forty years, tested for over 700 compounds with no detectable residues.
This is the whole method, and it is the same for both powders.
Powder first, then a splash of cold water, so nothing sticks to the base. One to two grams is enough.
Shake for ten seconds with the lid firmly closed.
Pour the concentrate over warm or cold milk. Sweeten gently if you like; the hojicha rarely needs anything.
Here is the practical information: contents, dosage, care and storage.
Keep the powders at room temperature, airtight, dark and dry, ideally in the resealable pouches, and preferably within 4-6 weeks of opening. Store the shaker with the lid off to keep it fresh.
