Umegashima

The village where the fog hides the tea.

Umegashima is a mountain village in northern Shizuoka, in the headwaters of the Abe River toward the Southern Alps. The tea fields sit at 750 to 800 meters altitude and are wrapped morning and evening in mountain and river fog. The altitude makes the harvest late and slow, and that very slowness gives the leaves unusually deep fullness and sweetness.

At Nekko

Nekko's sencha powder and hojicha powder come from Umegashima, through the association that works to preserve the village's historic tea fields and sell the tea under its own name, Kakurecha.
